KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Malaysia has raised US$1.5 billion through its first US dollar sukuk issuance in five years, with the offering attracting 4.7 times oversubscription from global investors.
The government said the proceeds will finance infrastructure projects and refinance existing obligations.
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the strong demand reflected investor confidence in Malaysia’s economy.
The issuance comes as the government faces higher fuel subsidy costs, with spending potentially rising to RM40 billion this year if global oil prices remain elevated.
