KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said said the government has revised the Bill separating the roles of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor.
Removing the Prime Minister’s involvement in appointing future public prosecutors. Under the proposed changes, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will appoint the Public Prosecutor.
Based solely on the independent advice of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission (SPKP), with Parliament also empowered to scrutinise candidates.
The constitutional amendment is expected to be tabled after the Parliamentary Select Committee report is approved.
