GEORGE TOWN, July 29 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government is monitoring areas with sizeable Rohingya communities.
Following the voluntary relocation of 126 refugees from a temporary settlement in Penaga to Kuala Lumpur. Chow said the move was initiated by the Rohingya community.
With assistance from relevant agencies to seek support from the UNHCR. He added that the state acknowledged residents’ concerns over the social and economic impact of the settlements.
While stressing that everyone in Malaysia must comply with the law. He also urged UNHCR to closely monitor the growing refugee population.
