PUTRAJAYA, August 2 — Malaysia’s population is estimated to have reached 34.4 million in 2026, up 0.5% from the previous year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Selangor remained the country’s most populous state with 21.7% of the total population, while Terengganu recorded the fastest growth rate at 1.2%.
DOSM also reported that 12 states have now attained ageing state status, with Perak recording the highest proportion of residents aged 65 and above at 10.8%.
Malaysia’s median age increased to 31.7 years, while population density rose to 104 persons per square kilometre, with Kuala Lumpur remaining the country’s most densely populated area.
