GEORGE TOWN, August 4 — Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Hon Wai toured several signature visual arts exhibitions featured in George Town Festival (GTF) 2026.
Highlighting the festival’s role in promoting Penang’s creative ecosystem and cultural tourism. The visit formed part of the festival’s visual arts programme. Which brings together artists from Malaysia and abroad.
Through exhibitions, installations and interactive experiences across George Town. Among the featured exhibitions were “Shifting Whispers” by Parallax Collective at ChinaHouse.
A multidisciplinary exhibition exploring identity, landscape and memory through painting, sculpture, performance and installation art.
Wong also visited “Collodion, Silver, Glass: Contemporary Wet Plate Photography” at Hikayat, showcasing the work of Steve Tan, Malaysia’s only professional wet plate photographer.
Whose handcrafted glass plate images highlight the timeless beauty of one of photography’s earliest processes. The tour concluded at Cultprint with “The Natural History Museum of Yeahnahnesia”.
An immersive exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist duo Yok & Sheryo, presenting paintings, sculptures and installations inspired by the fictional island nation of Yeahnahnesia.
