GEORGE TOWN, August 5 — Two Sri Lankan tourists, aged 66 and 55, were injured after a termite-damaged wooden beam collapsed from a heritage shophouse along Lebuh Armenian.
Striking them with timber and masonry. The victims were rescued by the Penang Fire and Rescue Department and taken to Penang Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) and the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
Will issue a safety advisory urging owners to inspect and maintain heritage buildings. State Local Government Committee chairman Jason H’ng said preliminary inspections found the collapse.
Was caused by severe termite damage and called on owners to conduct regular structural assessments to ensure public safety.
