GEORGE TOWN, August 6 — Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) announced that construction of the Penang Mutiara Line continues to make steady progress.
With major engineering, land acquisition and railway system milestones achieved. Under the CMC1 package, works are now active across 14 of the planned 19 construction sections.
With 45 pile caps and 32 pier columns completed, while 93% of the required land has been made available for construction.
MRT Corp has also awarded the RM3.028 billion System Turnkey Contract (STC) to the MRCB–Theta Edge Joint Venture.
Covering electric trains, signalling, trackwork, power supply, telecommunications and fare collection systems.
Meanwhile, tender evaluations for the CMC2 package from KOMTAR to Penang Sentral are underway, with the contract targeted for award in November 2026.
The corporation said it remains committed to delivering Penang’s first metro rail system while minimising disruption during construction.
