KUALA LUMPUR, August 12 — Parliament’s special sitting on the Tabung Haji (TH) Royal Commission of Inquiry report highlighted serious governance, investment and financial management failures at the pilgrims’ fund.
Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan said Bank Negara Malaysia issued five warnings from 2014 over high profit distributions and TH’s widening asset-liability gap.
The RCI also identified 14 problematic investments involving billions of ringgit in losses. Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has ordered a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the findings.
With police and MACC investigations underway. Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman called for a forensic audit and multi-agency task force.
Most PN MPs, meanwhile, walked out after Speaker Johari Abdul rejected their request to postpone the sitting due to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s absence following surgery.
Several Bersatu MPs declined to join the walkout. Anwar later criticised the move, saying lawmakers should focus on debating the RCI findings rather than his absence.
