GEORGE TOWN, August 14 — Penang may advise schools to suspend or postpone outdoor activities if air quality deteriorates further, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Chow said the state’s Air Pollutant Index (API) remained at moderate levels, although readings approached 100 earlier in the morning.

He said further action would depend on subsequent API readings and developments in the haze situation.

The state government is receiving regular updates from the state secretary and Department of Environment, with Chow saying a detailed statement on Penang’s air quality would be issued later.
