KUALA LUMPUR, August 15 — Malaysia’s air quality deteriorated Friday, with 10 areas recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) levels as of 11am.

Serian recorded the highest API at 182, followed by Kuching at 171 and Samarahan at 170. Unhealthy readings were also recorded in other parts of Sarawak, Cheras, Johan Setia and Shah Alam.

The Department of Environment said smoke movement from multiple directions contributed to worsening conditions.

Malaysia has activated its national haze and open-burning action plans, while outdoor classroom activities must stop when API readings exceed 100.
