GEORGE TOWN, August 15 — Tremors were felt across Penang on Saturday evening after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 6.54pm, according to MetMalaysia.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received reports between 7.23pm and 7.27pm from the Barat Daya, Timur Laut and Seberang Perai districts.
Firefighters were deployed to affected locations to monitor the situation. MetMalaysia said tremors could be felt along parts of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
No tsunami threat was issued for Malaysia following the earthquake.
