GEORGE TOWN, September 14 — The Penang Hill funicular service will temporarily close from Jan 4 to 10, 2027 for its first scheduled annual maintenance of the year.
Penang Hill Corporation said services will resume on Jan 11. Maintenance will include repairs to the track structure at the Lower Station, funicular air-conditioning systems and roofs.
The work will be conducted under the supervision of engineers from Swiss funicular manufacturer Garaventa AG as part of safety inspections.
During the closure, visitors can reach Penang Hill by jeep services near the Penang Botanic Gardens or use designated hiking routes.
