GEORGE TOWN, August 18 — Penang has identified nine flagship development proposals under its Draft Penang Structure Plan 2040, or RSNPP 2040, as part of its long-term planning for the state.
The proposals include an aerospace and logistics industrial park linked to Penang International Airport and a global semiconductor and innovation corridor in Bayan Lepas.
The draft also lists affordable housing and youth transit housing in Seberang Perai Tengah, as well as a climate resilience and water security project involving Sungai Kerian and Sungai Perai.
Other proposals include a Penang Hill education and climate research hub, an integrated growth triangle involving Nibong Tebal, Parit Buntar and Bandar Baharu.
An agro-tourism hub in Balik Pulau and a biodiversity and climate resilience hub on Pulau Jerejak. The draft aims to replace the Penang Structure Plan 2030, which was gazetted in 2019.
The supplied publicity materials do not state the cost, funding source, implementation schedule or completion date for the nine flagship proposals.
The draft is open for public review until Sept 9, with feedback and objections accepted during the review period.
