GEORGE TOWN, August 19 — The Economy Ministry and Penang State Government have launched a STEM Talent Pilot Project targeting more than 100,000 students by 2030, with RM12.3 million allocated to support the initiative.
Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the programme builds on Penang’s 2024 STEM Talent Blueprint and will cover four areas — STEM education, MathQuest, AI on Wheels and Technical Skill Learning.
The initiative will expose students to artificial intelligence, data science, robotics and digital technologies, while strengthening pathways into higher-skilled jobs and further education.
Akmal said Penang’s semiconductor and electrical and electronics ecosystem makes it an ideal testing ground, with the model potentially expanded to other states following an assessment of its effectiveness.
