KUALA LUMPUR, August 20 — Kedah will study whether legal avenues remain to pursue its zero-gambling policy after a setback at the Federal Court, Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said.
Sanusi said the state would seek legal advice to understand the judgment and ensure any further action complied with the court’s decision.
The Federal Court on Aug 12 denied Kedah leave to appeal a Court of Appeal ruling concerning gambling premises licences.
The lower courts had found the state’s directive exceeded its legal powers and was inconsistent with the Federal Constitution. Sanusi said no decision had been made on issuing new licences.
