GEORGE TOWN, August 31 — About 25,000 people attended Penang’s state-level National Day celebration despite haze concerns in the days leading up to the event, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Sunday.

Chow said the celebration proceeded smoothly, with participating contingents completing their programmes as planned.
He thanked organisers, government officials, the public and media for contributing to the event, which he said promoted unity and harmony.

Asked about two Penang-linked officers reportedly uncontactable in Nepal, Chow said the state government had not received information on the matter.
He said the state would contact the relevant Penang agency to obtain further details and determine whether assistance was needed.
