PUTRAJAYA, September 1 — Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad joined thousands of Malaysians at the 69th National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday.
The 101-year-old statesman attended in an electric wheelchair and sat among spectators along the parade route rather than in an official pavilion.
A livestream showed Mahathir waving the Jalur Gemilang, greeting visitors and posing for photographs with members of the public and security personnel.
The appearance came months after he fractured his hip in a fall while exercising at home. Mahathir later posted a National Day message and video highlighting his two terms as prime minister.
