GEORGE TOWN, September 1 — Penang showcased its multicultural living heritage during the state’s 69th National Day parade at Padang Kota Lama on Monday.

State tourism executive councillor Wong Hon Wai said the contingent brought together eight forms of intangible cultural heritage alongside Penang’s iconic trishaws.

Among the highlights were lion dance costumes made with batik fabric and a specially designed kebaya-themed Chingay flag. The presentation also featured Boria, Silambam and Silat Siku 12.

Wong said the concept aimed to move beyond presenting different traditions side by side by demonstrating how Malaysia’s diverse cultural traditions can interact, integrate and complement one another.
