BUTTERWORTH, September 2 — Twenty-one passengers were injured after the Teluk Bahang ferry collided with MV Mekar Jaya within Penang Port waters on Tuesday night.
The Penang Port Commission said the collision occurred at 8.40pm as MV Mekar Jaya was travelling from Butterworth’s Deep Water Wharves towards Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal.
The ferry was heading towards Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim. State health executive councillor Daniel Gooi said 10 people received treatment at Hospital Seberang Jaya while 11 were treated at the scene.
All affected passengers have left the ferry terminal. Authorities said ferry operations remain normal and were not disrupted by the incident.
