KUCHING, September 2 — The Election Commission has proposed creating 17 new state constituencies in Sarawak as part of its 2026 electoral boundary review.
Petra Jaya would gain Matang and Semarak, Sibu would gain Sungai Merah and Bukit Kemuyang, while Miri would add Permaisuri and Tudan.
Other proposed seats include Jagoi, Pasir Pandak, Tabuan Jaya, Samarindah, Batu Niah and Usun Apau.
The EC also proposed renaming 10 existing state constituencies and changing the Igan parliamentary constituency’s name to Batang Lassa.
The recommendations and draft constituency plans are open for public inspection from Sept 1 to 30, with representations accepted during the same period.
