SEBERANG PERAI, September 3 — Sunway Medical Centre Penang and BREGO Life Sciences are using artificial intelligence to help identify potential osteoporosis risks during routine health screenings.
The hospital has integrated Acer Medical’s VeriOsteo OP software into its chest X-ray workflow, providing clinicians with an additional risk assessment.
Since April, 2,954 people aged 21 and above have been screened, with 81 referred for formal DEXA assessment following clinical review. The partners stressed that the software does not diagnose osteoporosis.
DEXA remains the diagnostic standard, while the AI system serves as a decision-support tool to identify patients who may benefit from further evaluation.
