KUALA LUMPUR, September 4 — Proposed laws limiting the prime minister’s tenure and separating the roles of Attorney General and Public Prosecutor are ready for parliamentary consideration.
Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman Said said Thursday. Both reforms require amendments to the Federal Constitution and therefore need two-thirds parliamentary support.
Azalina said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as Leader of the House, would decide whether the term-limit Bill proceeds at the next sitting.
She urged lawmakers across party lines to support both measures, saying the prosecution reform could strengthen public confidence and reduce perceptions of politically motivated charges.
Separately, Azalina said a proposed Coroners Bill is expected to be tabled in 2027.
