KUALA LUMPUR, September 5 — An emergency has been declared across Serian Division in Sarawak after worsening haze pushed air pollution to hazardous levels.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim consented to the declaration following advice from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and relevant agencies.
Serian recorded an Air Pollutant Index reading of 515 at 5:25 p.m. Friday, while Kuching also remained hazardous at 306. The Prime Minister’s Office said the declaration would enable more effective measures.
