KUALA LUMPUR, September 5 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said further action on Sarawak’s worsening haze, including a possible disaster emergency, will be discussed with the state government.
Anwar said he had contacted Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg and assured that necessary safety measures would be taken if conditions deteriorate.
Possible measures include cloud seeding and suspending school and office operations, except for critical agencies.
Serian recorded a hazardous Air Pollutant Index reading of 518 on Friday morning, while Kuching reached 310. Samarahan and Sri Aman recorded very unhealthy levels of 281 and 245 respectively.
