BUTTERWORTH, September 5 — Penang has stepped up measures to address sewage pollution from pig farms in Kampung Selamat, requiring farms to send wastewater to a biogas plant in Ampang Jajar.
State executive councillor Jason H’ng said weekly monitoring and surprise inspections have so far found no farms directly discharging sewage into drains or rivers.
The state is also working to remove old waste accumulated in drains before proposed desilting works by the Drainage and Irrigation Department.
H’ng said authorities would take enforcement action against offenders, including issuing summonses and referring cases to court for breaches of regulations.
