SEBERANG PERAI, September 5 — Malaysia’s Works Ministry has fully used its RM2 billion annual road maintenance allocation and will seek additional funding to address repair and safety needs nationwide.
Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan said about RM4 billion a year is needed for more comprehensive maintenance. With limited funds, the ministry prioritises accident hotspots.
For resurfacing, lighting and road furniture improvements. Ahmad said human negligence accounted for 81% of road accidents, while road conditions contributed 13%.
The ministry has also introduced the locally developed Tuju app, offering live traffic information, navigation and road damage reporting through its MyJalan feature.
