GEORGE TOWN, September 6 — Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo called for a “United Nations 2.0” on Sunday, saying global institutions must adapt to increasingly complex conflicts and technological disruption.
Delivering a keynote address at the Penang Peace Dialogue, Jokowi said the United Nations should rethink its systems, processes and strategies to remain relevant.
“We need stronger global institutions, stronger global mediation and stronger global diplomacy to keep peace,” he said.
Jokowi also warned that artificial intelligence, automation and digital transformation could deepen divisions without responsible leadership.
He said peace depends on trust, dialogue and mutual respect, while developed countries should carry greater responsibility for promoting stability and shared prosperity.
