SEBERANG PERAI, September 6 — About 75% of delayed and troubled construction projects nationwide are caused by poor contractor management, weak operational oversight and financial shortfalls, Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan said on Tuesday.
Technical problems at project sites account for the remaining 25%, he said at the CIDB Northern Region Contractor Convention 2026.
Ahmad urged contractors to strengthen cash flow, governance, skilled manpower and project delivery while adopting Building Information Modelling and other digital tools.
He also called for an end to proxy bidding, tender-rigging and “Ali Baba” arrangements where contracts are passed entirely to third parties. More than 400 industry participants attended the two-day convention.
