KUALA LUMPUR, September 7 — Garmin Malaysia’s trail athletes are advising beginners to prioritise preparation, safety and effort management when moving from road to trail running.

They recommend suitable trail shoes, sufficient water and nutrition, and GPS devices loaded with route maps, particularly where mobile coverage may be limited.

Runners going alone should inform someone of their route, share their live location and avoid unfamiliar trails without preparation. Beginners can also join organised community runs to gain experience.

The athletes said heart rate, recovery data and elevation information can help runners manage training safely, while consistent training and adequate rest remain more important than chasing speed.
