GEORGE TOWN, September 8 — Penang International Airport has not recorded large-scale passenger stranding following Jakarta flight cancellations caused by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
State tourism executive councillor Wong Hon Wai said affected airlines, including AirAsia, TransNusa and Batik Air, had notified passengers in advance.

He added that recent haze conditions had not disrupted airport operations. Penang is also preparing for new direct flights from Haikou on Oct 11 and Batam on Oct 18.
International passenger movements at the airport reached 2.65 million from January to July, up 11.13% from the same period last year.
