GEORGE TOWN, September 9 — Malaysia will only decide whether to adopt nuclear energy after 2030, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said Tuesday.
Speaking after ESTCON 2026, Chang stressed that nuclear energy was already being studied, but no decision had been made.
MOSTI is carrying out preparatory work covering technology development, talent and regulatory readiness, while other aspects fall under the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry.
Chang said Malaysia needed to build the necessary capabilities before deciding whether nuclear power should form part of its future energy mix.
He added that industry readiness would also be essential before any potential adoption.
