GEORGE TOWN, September 14 — A RM33 million underpass linking Jalan Mount Erskine and Jalan Burma is targeted for completion in 2029 as the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) moves to improve traffic flow and urban mobility.
The proposed underpass will connect Jalan Mount Erskine to Jalan Burma at the Jalan Mount Erskine-Jalan Gottlieb-Jalan Burma-Jalan Bagan Jermal junction, with funding under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
MBPP also expects a RM2.8 million road connection between Jalan Tanjong Tokong and the Penang Outer Ring Road to be completed in early 2027.
Another RM1.1 million project to upgrade part of Jalan Tanjong Tokong, from the Taman Tok Hin junction towards Jalan Fettes and Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang, is also targeted for early 2027.
Separately, MBPP received RM1.5 million from the Transport Ministry to build 97 bus stops with information boards and solar-powered lighting.
The council said its mobility strategy would continue to prioritise pedestrians, cycling, public transport and first-and-last-mile connectivity.
