PORT DICKSON, September 16 — Malaysians have been advised not to rush to replace their MyKad when applications for the new version open on Sept 17.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said replacements would be carried out in phases to prevent congestion at National Registration Department offices.
About 24 million MyKad cards are currently in circulation, while 180,000 to 200,000 cards are issued monthly. Saifuddin said existing MyKad cards remain valid for daily transactions.
While replacement will not affect subsidy eligibility or balances linked to the cards. The new MyKad includes about 50 additional security features.
