KUALA LUMPUR, September 18 — Umno will launch a donation fund to help former prime minister Najib Razak pay the RM50 million fine required under his conditional clemency, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
Zahid welcomed the decision allowing Najib to serve his remaining sentence under house arrest, describing it as meaningful for Najib, his family and Umno members.
He said contributions to the fund would be voluntary and managed transparently in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Zahid also urged party members to respect the prescribed process and said Umno remained committed to the monarchy, Constitution and rule of law.
