KUALA LUMPUR, September 23 — Malaysia is looking to strengthen e-commerce regulations amid concerns over prohibited goods being sold online, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Tuesday.
The Communications Ministry will work with the Home Ministry, Domestic Trade Ministry, police and other agencies to address existing regulatory gaps.
Fahmi said e-commerce platforms are currently not subject to licensing. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has also begun discussions.
With platforms over online drug sales, including fentanyl, with Fahmi urging operators to prevent fake seller accounts rather than merely remove search keywords.
