KOTA KINABALU, September 23 — Sabah’s electricity reserve margin has risen to 19% from 8% in 2024 and is expected to reach 26% by year-end, Chief Minister Hajiji Noor said.
Power interruption duration also fell from 598 minutes in 2023 to 226 minutes as of July. Hajiji said Sabah plans new gas-fired power plants in Sandakan and Tawau.
Alongside additional large-scale solar and battery storage projects. The state is targeting renewable energy to account for 50% of its generation capacity by 2035 under the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan.
