HANGZHOU, September 24 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim strongly criticised the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and former state executive council over their move involving Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Anwar described their actions as “uncivilised and disrespectful”, saying the Menteri Besar and state exco had no mandate to unilaterally question or determine the position of the state Ruler.
He said disagreements involving the royal institution could be raised, but any decision concerning the Ruler must follow the proper constitutional and customary procedures governing Negeri Sembilan.
Anwar said the federal government was not interfering in state affairs but had a responsibility to uphold the Federal Constitution, safeguard national institutions and ensure the position of the Malay Rulers was respected.
