KUALA LUMPUR, September 26 — Former prime minister Najib Razak cannot afford the RM50 million fine required before he can serve his remaining SRC International sentence under house arrest, his lawyer said.
Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said Najib’s bank accounts remain frozen, leaving him unable to personally settle the fine. Shafee said Najib had not asked the public for donations.
And was facing difficulty meeting the condition. He added that Najib’s lawyers have yet to receive the official pardon document detailing the conditions, eight days after the conditional clemency was granted.
