GEORGE TOWN, September 29 — George Town has received the Silver Award at the 2nd ASEAN Smoke-Free Awards, recognising its efforts to create healthier smoke-free public spaces.
Penang Health, Youth and Sports executive councillor Daniel Gooi said the recognition followed years of cooperation between government agencies, health authorities and communities.
Penang will next host more than 200 health ministers, mayors, public health experts and advocates at the 10th Asia-Pacific Smoke-Free Meeting on Nov 12 and 13.
The meeting will focus on emerging nicotine challenges, including e-cigarettes, heated tobacco and nicotine pouches, while strengthening regional cooperation on smoke-free policies.
