PUTRAJAYA, September 29 — The Education Ministry has removed the requirement for private limited companies operating private education institutions under the ministry.

To maintain at least 30% Bumiputera equity. KPM said the requirement had appeared in its Private Education Institutions Policy Statement published in 2006.

Following discussions with the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, KPM agreed the 30% threshold would no longer be imposed as an ownership condition.

The ministry said the change reflects current needs in the education sector and is intended to keep participation open to all parties seeking to contribute to Malaysia’s education system.
