KULAI, September 29 — MCMC and telecommunications providers blocked 101.66 million scam and spoof calls between February and August, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said.
Teo said the Inter Operator Spoofing Gateway, introduced this year, had proven effective in detecting and blocking suspicious calls.
She said overseas scammers often use Caller ID spoofing to disguise their calls as numbers originating from Malaysian telecommunications networks.
Separately, MCMC will meet Meta online on Monday for a detailed briefing on complaints involving WhatsApp accounts reportedly hacked, blocked or inaccessible, after the regulator referred the cases to the platform.
