BAYAN LEPAS, October 3 — Bayan Baru residents should expect traffic pressure as construction intensifies on Penang’s Mutiara Line LRT, MP Steven Sim said.
Sim said about 40% of the LRT alignment and stations are located within his parliamentary constituency, resulting in significant construction activity.
He said authorities were maintaining a “no road closure” approach where possible, with affected sections reopened after night works. Sim acknowledged that congestion would remain a challenge.
Even after the LRT is completed if car ownership continues rising. “People are addicted to cars,” he said, urging residents to consider public transport as part of the long-term solution.
