SEPANG, October 6 — Malaysia has opened discussions with Formula 1 over a potential permanent return of the Malaysian Grand Prix to Sepang, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar met F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, which brought Formula 1 back to Sepang after nine years.   He said discussions were still at an early stage.

With F1’s crowded calendar and existing contracts among the considerations. The government will also assess the financial implications and economic benefits.

Before deciding whether to pursue a permanent return. Malaysia previously hosted its own Grand Prix annually from 1999 to 2017.
