GEORGE TOWN, October 8 — Air quality in Penang deteriorated Thursday morning, with three of four monitoring stations recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.

State Environment Committee chairman Sundarajoo Somu said readings of 155, 154 and 152 were recorded at 7am, while the remaining station registered a moderate reading of 92.

He urged children, elderly people, pregnant women and those with heart or respiratory conditions to reduce prolonged outdoor activities.

Residents experiencing breathing difficulties should seek medical advice if symptoms persist. The state government will continue monitoring air quality and urged the public to avoid open burning.
