PERMATANG PAUH, October 8 — The Seberang Perai City Council is seeking federal funding for an estimated RM18 million phased reconstruction of the Sama Gagah Public Market.

Built in 1995 with four additional blocks completed in 2009, the market currently has 125 stalls. State Local Government Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye said ageing infrastructure.

Limited business space and growing numbers of traders have created an urgent need for improvements. MBSP has applied to the Housing and Local Government Ministry for funding.

Because of the project’s high cost and the council’s financial constraints. The state government hopes the redevelopment will improve safety, cleanliness and comfort for traders and residents.
