KUALA LUMPUR, October 9 — The government and Grab will jointly finance a RM160 million assistance package beginning in 2027 to improve earnings and welfare protection.

For Malaysia’s e-hailing and p-hailing workers. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative will include minimum income improvements, vehicle maintenance assistance, insurance coverage.

And Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) contributions for workers in the gig economy. Under the package, median-income e-hailing drivers are expected to receive additional net earnings.

Of up to RM227 monthly, while p-hailing delivery riders could earn up to RM100 more each month. The government will also introduce matching SOCSO contribution incentives of 35%, increasing to 50%.

When platform companies contribute, alongside Employees Provident Fund (EPF) matching incentives of up to RM600 annually or RM6,000 over a worker’s lifetime.
