KUALA LUMPUR, October 9 — More than 9,000 contract doctors will be offered permanent positions in 2027 as the government moves to address the long-standing employment uncertainty.

Faced by medical officers in Malaysia’s public healthcare system. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the measure under Budget 2027.

Saying the government aims to resolve the contract doctor issue through permanent appointments. Since 2023, more than 15,000 contract doctors have been appointed to permanent positions.

Including 4,000 in 2026. Under the new arrangement, doctors who successfully complete their housemanship will subsequently be offered permanent medical officer positions.

The announcement forms part of broader healthcare reforms, with the Ministry of Health’s allocation increasing from RM46.5 billion to RM47.7 billion in 2027.
