GEORGE TOWN, October 18 — Batik Air launched its inaugural direct flight from Batam to Penang on Sunday, arriving at Penang International Airport at 1.40pm.

The service operates every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, making Batam the fifth Indonesian city with direct flights to Penang, alongside Jakarta, Surabaya, Banda Aceh and Medan.

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the route would strengthen tourism, business and medical travel between Penang and Indonesia’s Riau Islands.

The airline is also working with Sunway Medical Centre Penang, Island Hospital and KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital to improve healthcare accessibility for Indonesian patients.

Wong said the new connection would support Visit Malaysia 2026 and encourage more Indonesian visitors to explore Penang’s tourism attractions.

Batik Air also introduced promotional code FLYBATIK26, offering discounts of up to 25% for bookings made by Oct 25, with travel permitted until Nov 30.
