KUALA LUMPUR, October 19 — Malaysian businesses now exempt from mandatory e-Invoicing can continue using the system voluntarily or stop, Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong told Parliament.
The exemption, effective Sept 1, covers about 1.1 million MSME taxpayers with annual sales or income of RM3 million or below.
Liew said 164,435 taxpayers in this category had already voluntarily adopted e-Invoicing. He said the government wants to reduce compliance and administrative burdens on smaller businesses.
Malaysia introduced e-Invoicing in August 2024, initially covering businesses with annual sales exceeding RM100 million before progressively expanding the system.
