GEORGE TOWN, October 19 — Penang-based British artist Thomas Powell will explore Malaysia’s recurring haze and broader environmental uncertainty in a new solo exhibition opening this month.
Up In The Air, running from Oct 17 to Dec 6 at Cultprint on Lebuh Melayu, examines links between climate pressures, political systems, economic strain and historical patterns.
Through original works and mixed-media installations, Powell uses surreal imagery and culturally loaded objects to question how societies respond to known risks.
The exhibition does not predict collapse but instead asks whether environmental disruption can encourage greater preparedness, sustainability and awareness of the systems shaping modern life.
